Week commencing 11th March 2013 Energy: Applications from Meygen Ltd and Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd will go before next Tuesday’s meeting of the Highland Council’s North Planning Applications Committee. Week Commencing 4th March 2013 Energy: Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) is currently consulting on the planning application to build new overhead lines from Dounreay to Spittal; from Spittal to Mybster; and for a new substation 3.5km south of Thurso. Wick and Thurso Police Stations Moving To Reduced Opening Times
Revised opening times for eight police stations in the Highlands and Islands. New opening times will come into effect in April 2013 for eight of Northern Constabulary's fifty police stations in an effort to provide the most effective and visible front-line police service.1/3/2013

Energy: Meygen Ltd will be running a "Tier 2 Supply Chain" event on Tuesday 19th March. The event, which will be by invitation only, is aimed at potential suppliers to the company's first 86MW phase of plans to install tidal devices in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth.23/2/2013

At today’s Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee members awarded Pulteneytown People’s project £90,506 from the Deprived Area Fund which will be used to provide services to local people through the Advice Centre. This will be used to support the work of the one-stop shop to provide local people help and advice with benefits, staying on at school, re-training, housing issues and applying for jobs.17/2/2013

Weekly update from CNSRP - week commencing 14th January 2013 Energy: The Crown Estate has this week announced that it will consider investing up to £20M in two wave or tidal stream projects. The investment will be in the construction of the projects, with each project involving multiple generation devices arranged in an array and with a total installed capacity of 3 megawatts or greater.16/1/2013
Police Pay Protected In Scotland
The Scottish Government will not impose changes to the starting salaries of police officers in Scotland. Following the announcement that Home Secretary Theresa May has agreed to cut starting salaries for police constables in England and Wales by £4,000 to £19,000, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said:"The Scottish Government did not commission the Winsor Review which relates to policing in England and Wales.12/1/2013

Week commencing 7th January 2013 Energy: The new year brings further good news from Subsea 7 as it secures another significant contract which will help maintain its current workforce of around 120 at Wester, near Wick. The contract, for Dana Petroleum, will involve pipeline construction for Dana's Harris and Barra fields located to the east of Shetland.21/12/2012

Energy: Last week a number of local people were able to view a demonstration of a system designed by Nuvia and tested at T3UK near Thurso. The remote handling equipment, for spent fuel at a power station being decommissioned in Lithuania, is the product of two years of joint work between Nuvia and JGC Engineering Services.14/12/2012
NDA Announcement On National Nuclear Archive
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced a decision to proceed with the next phase of the National Nuclear Archive project, which will see a new purpose built archive facility constructed at Wick to provide long-term storage of records and other archive material from civil nuclear sites in the UK. The archive will be operated on NDA’s behalf by a specialist commercial partner and is expected to bring more than 20 sustainable jobs to the town.11/12/2012

Week Commencing 3rd December 2012 Energy: At last week's Wave & Tidal Information Day in Thurso staff from Marine Scotland and Highland Council were present to talk about the ongoing work to develop a Pentland Firth & Orkney Waters Marine Spatial Plan. The pilot plan aims to develop a strategic decision-making framework for licensing and other consent applications in the marine area.1/12/2012
More than 200 jobs secured by Far North business fund
The North Highland Regeneration Fund, whose board director is local MP John Thurso, has helped retain and create 218 jobs sinces it was set up in 2006. The fund is supported by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and is designed to distribute loans to businesses in the Far North.1/12/2012

The event had displays and staff from Meygen, Scottish Power Renewables, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd, National Grid, Marine Scotland, The Crown Estate, HIE, Highland Council, Business Gateway, Skills Development Scotland, Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Scrabster Harbour Trust, Wick Harbour Authority, Energy North, North Highland College, the Environmental Research Institute and the European Marine Energy Centre.30/11/2012
