The lifeline ferry service between Stromness and Scrabster will cease operation completely for a fortnight this winter, NorthLink Ferries has confirmed. The route is to be shutdown from January 31 until February 13 while mv Hamnavoe goes into dry dock for maintenance.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has today announced a two-year extension to its ground-breaking industrial partnership aimed at inspiring and supporting young people in the nuclear industry. Chief Executive, David Peattie, announced that the NDA's partnership with the Nuclear Institute’s (NI) Young Generation Network (YGN) would continue for another two years following a hugely successful first year of collaboration and support.
Rope access experts have been abseiling down 20 metre high rock walls around Dounreay's low level radioactive waste vaults, carrying out rock face maintenance and stabilisation work. Dounreay operates facilities for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste adjacent to the nuclear licensed site.

More than ten million vaccination doses have been administered in Scotland since the first jabs against COVID-19 were given exactly one year ago. The biggest vaccination programme ever undertaken has seen 4,355,063 first doses, 3,962,203 second doses and 1,922,604 boosters and third doses administered from around 1,200 locations.

HMRC's Self-serve Time to Pay facility has enabled 20,000 customers, who were struggling to pay their tax return, to spread the cost of their bill. More than 20,000 Self Assessment customers have used HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) online monthly payment plan service since April to spread the cost of their tax bill, totalling £46 million so far, it has been revealed.

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant spoke in the Scottish Parliament today on the independent review of Moray maternity services. Mrs Grant said: "I too welcome the review but feel for families who rightly are frustrated by delays and therefore it would be good to have a clear indication of the time frame for the restoration of full maternity services at Dr Gray's and, in the meantime, what support will be available for families who have to travel to Aberdeen or Inverness for maternity services, by way of accommodation and of child minding for their families?" Scottish Government Health Secretary, Humza Yousaf, who gave a statement on the issue to MSPs, responded that Mrs Grant's was a fair request and promised to find out about accommodation and travel costs in conversation with the NHS boards.

The latest round of funding awards from Marine Fund Scotland (MFS) has seen fishing businesses and marine organisations in coastal communities receive more than £3 million. The latest quarterly statistics on housebuilding and affordable housing supply have been published by Scotland's Chief Statistician. There were 14,834 all-sector new build homes completed in Scotland in the year to end December 2020, a decrease of 35% (7,839 homes) on the previous year, with activity levels having been affected by lockdown measures from March to June 2020.
