Characteristics of People and Households Without a Private Pension
For those below retirement age, 45% of men and 49% of women in Great Britain did not have any private pension savings in 2010-2012.   95% of men and women working in Accommodation and food service industries did not pay into a private pension in the UK in 2012.

Highland Counting Officer and Police appeal for common sense in Referendum campaign.
The Highland Counting Officer for the Scottish Independence Referendum and Police Scotland have appealed for a common sense approach to Referendum campaigners in Highland following the appearance of two large items on the rock face of the former Ballachulish Quarry in Lochaber.   The items which included a large Saltire flag assumed to have been installed overnight on Saturday 6 September and a ‘YES' poster on Monday 7 September were believed to have been placed there by a climber or climbers who drilled into the rock face and bolted the items to the rock.

Electoral Registration Officers across Scotland have compiled and published the number of young voters who have registered to vote in the Scottish Independence Referendum on Thursday 18 September.   A total of 4,285,323 people have registered to vote in the referendum and the total includes 109,533 people under 18.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 11th) sold 12,927 store lambs.   Cheviot lambs averaged £47.81 (+£1.49 on the year) and sold to £72 gross for a pen of ewe lambs from Strathkyle, Ardgay (Urquhart).

HVDC Light power link to enable integration of 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy.   ABB has won an order worth over $800 million from Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc to provide the Caithness-Moray high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission link, which will connect the electricity grid on either side of the Moray Firth in northern Scotland.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 10th) sold 147 store cattle, 17 breeding cattle and 28 OTM cattle.  Bullocks (66) averaged 218.9p and sold to 241.5p per kg for 352kg Limousin crosses from Wester Lochend, Loch Flemington, and £1,220 gross for a 550kg Limousin cross from Culnara, Bonar Bridge.

UK Trade shows the extent of import and export activity and is a key contributor to the overall economic growth of the UK.  Seasonally adjusted, the UK's deficit on trade in goods and services was estimated to have been £3.3 billion in July 2014, compared with £2.5 billion in June 2014.

Production output is estimated to have increased by 1.7% between July 2013 and July 2014.  This reflects increases of 2.2% in manufacturing (the largest component of production); and 3.4% in electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning output.

Muirtown cold call control zone launched
Residents in the Highfield Avenue and Blarmore Avenue area of Inverness will begin to help tackle the problem of doorstep crime today (Monday 8 September).   Muirtown Community Council have chosen the area to be a Cold Call Control Zone (CCCZ), an initiative facilitated by Highland Council Trading Standards and supported by Police Scotland that aims to educate and empower residents on how to deal with unwanted doorstep traders.

The success of an apprentice plumber from Dornoch who won the Student of the Year 2013/2014 title for SVQ 3 Domestic Plumbing 2nd Year from Inverness College has been recognised by Highland Councillors.   At the start of the recent Community Services Committee, members learned of Andrew Fraser's success and took the opportunity to congratulate him and pay tribute to the support and training given by council staff.

- CDFIs generate £100m of 'extra value' for the local economy through Regional Growth Fund - A further £150m government lending pot could unlock thousands more jobs Community lenders have generated over £100m in 'extra economic value' through a government-backed fund supporting small businesses and social enterprises in England.   Figures from the Community Development Finance Association (CDFA) have revealed that loans made by its members have delivered economic value worth more than five times the original funding [1].The funding has already secured over 2,600 jobs for English towns and cities, creating substantial benefits for the government and local economies.
