Over a fifth (22%) believe that having to work while at uni is affecting their studies.   36% of students think courses should be condensed from three or four years to two years.

ECB Adds Stimulus, but Markets Want More
Schroders Azad Zangana, European Economist and Chris Ames, Fixed Income Fund Manager comment on the announcement on Thursday 4th September 2014.: The European Central Bank (ECB) has cut interest rates further in an attempt to boost domestic demand and reduce the risk of deflation in the euro area.   The main policy interest rate has been lowered from 0.15% to 0.05%, while the deposit rate, previously lowered to -0.1%, has also been lowered to -0.2%.

Highland Council reports good progress against the Council Programme "Working together for the Highlands"
Highland Council can report being on target or having completed 96% of the 139 commitments outlined in the 5-year Council Programme "Working together for the Highlands 2012-17".   Overall satisfaction with Council services during 2013-14 was 87%, the 2nd highest figure ever reported by our Citizen's Panel.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts, (September, 4th) sold 1,844 store and breeding sheep incorporating annual sale of HISHA accredited sheep and 1335 on behalf of Lewis Livestock Producers.   Store lambs (739) averaged £45.30 and sold to £60 gross for Texel crosses from 2 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew.

Bonus Payments Up 4.9% on Last Year at £40.5 Billion
Total bonus payments received across the whole economy during the period May 2013 to April 2014 were £40.5 billion - an increase of 4.9% compared with a year earlier – according to the annual article on bonuses from ONS.  Of the total, £14.4 billion was paid in the finance and insurance industry, which increased by 2.9% over the year, and £26.1 billion in the rest of the economy, up 6.1%.

Council welcomes fourth edition "For Highland's Children"
Members of The Highland Council's Education, Children and Adult Services Committee have approved the final draft of an integrated children's services plan for the Council’s Care and Learning Service.   The plan titled, "For Highland’s Children 4" (2014-2019) also incorporates as far as possible the contribution of children’s services delivered by NHS Highland.

Highland Council is a winner in the RoSPA Awards 2014
The Highland Council is among the winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2014.   The Council's silver award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will be presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow on September 17.
