Exceptional Leader Sought For Police Scotland

A recruitment campaign seeking a new Chief Constable to lead the second largest police service in the UK has been launched today, Tuesday 29 May 2018.

The Scottish Police Authority is advertising for an outstanding and accomplished police leader to drive improvement and ensure Police Scotland adapts to meet the needs of Scotland's diverse communities in a rapidly changing world.

Susan Deacon CBE, Chair of the Scottish Police Authority, who will lead a panel to appoint a new Chief Constable said:

"The Chief Constable of Police Scotland is one of the most significant leadership roles in UK policing and one of the most important public leadership roles in Scotland.

"Our police service has a long and proud history, a committed workforce and commands strong public support. Its next leader must build on that solid foundation to take Police Scotland, the UK's second largest police service, forward in to the next stage of its development.

"We have put in place an open and robust selection process to make this key appointment and we are looking for an exceptional and accomplished leader to take up this vital role."

The deadline for applications is Monday 25 June 2018 at 12 noon. The SPA expects to announce a successful candidate in late August.

The current salary for the role will be £216,549. There will be no bonus payable.

This will be a fixed term appointment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years.

The appointment process has been tested and approved by the SPA's newly created Succession Planning and Appointments Committee.

A Selection Panel has been convened which will be chaired by Susan Deacon CBE, Chair of the SPA and will include:

* Mary Pitcaithly - Member, Scottish Police Authority

* Paul Gray - Scottish Government Director-General for Health & Social Care and Chief Executive of NHS Scotland

* Professor Lorne Crerar - Harper MacLeod LLP and Chair of Highlands & Islands Enterprise

* Lynne Owens, CBE QPM MA - Director General, National Crime Agency

Gill Imery QPM, HM Chief Inspector, is an advisor to the panel.
