In The final days to the Westmisnter election Struan Mackie has announced his 'Care in the Community pledge' campaigning ahead of the general election. "Many voters have asked what my number one priority would be if I am fortunate enough to be elected on the 8th of June.
The Highland Council took part in observing a minute's silence at 11:00 today Tuesday 6 June, in respect of the terrorist attack in London on Saturday 3 June 2017. New research conducted on behalf of the Scottish Research Society (SRS) by Walbrook Economics concludes that the cost of Scottish independence has risen from a minimum of £850 for the average Scot in 2014 to at least £2000 in 2017. The evidence is revealed in a new report "Saving Scotland from Financial Meltdown" published by the SRS, which is an update of its previous report "Much cost - Little benefit" published in advance of the independence referendum of 2014.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (June, 6th) sold 7 prime cattle. Prime bullocks (5) averaged 220.9p (-0.1p) and sold to 227.0p per kg and £1,369.60 gross.
Economic and community development agency, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed a new director of finance and corporate services. Nick Kenton joins HIE on 4 July from NHS Highland.
A minutes silence was held today at 11am in all Highland Council premises in tribute to the victims of the London terrorist attack. At the Council's headquarters on Glenurquhart Road in Inverness, staff joined the Members to observe the silence.
A Thurso based engineering firm has secured an industry accreditation award that will boost its reputation internationally and help attract new business. Envision Engineering and Design Limited created five jobs when it was set up less than a year ago by Liam Sutherland and Stuart Anderson, both of whom are originally from Caithness.

Energy companies should share more of the profits made from the development of the Highlands' natural resources of wind, wave, tidal and hydro to allow economic growth and job creation in the Highlands and Islands. Olivia Bell, Labour's General Election candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, is making the plea after carrying out some number crunching around the profits being made by companies in the lucrative renewable energy industry.
In extraordinary scenes during yesterday's Highland Council meeting, Leader of the Opposition Councillor Maxine Smith, attempted to block the council from having a higher profile at a national level. Along with her SNP colleagues she refused to back a suggestion to nominate Council Leader, Margaret Davidson, as a Vice President of COSLA.

On Thursday 1st June 2017 the Council agreed plans to set up Policy Development Groups, who will meet behind closed doors and discuss strategy and major changes for the Highlands. Speaking in the chamber today, the Leader of the Opposition, SNP Cllr.
The Highland Council has agreed a new strategic committee structure at its meeting on 1 June 2017. No top positions for Caithness on new committee structure.

Responding to a report to the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) Board, Leader of the Council, Margaret Davidson said: "I understand that the SPA is to receive an update on the plans to close the Inverness Control Room and establish a National Database Enquiry Unit (NDEU), with a decision being deferred until August. The Council's position has always been and remains that the Police Control Room should be retained in the Highlands.
Clean beaches celebrated ahead of bathing season. Environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful, has announced that 12 beaches from across the Highlands have been recognised for the high standards provided to users - from keeping sand litter free to providing excellent information and accessible amenities.
Economic and community development agency, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed a new director of energy and low carbon. Audrey MacIver of Alness in Easter Ross starts in the post today (Thursday 1 June).
To date over 14,000 households have made payment for their brown bin collections and it is anticipated this figure will rise as we near the deadline for applications. The Highland Council's new brown bin collection service is due to start on 3rd July 2017.

Hard-pressed households face a further squeeze on their family budgets when the latest increase in the government's Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) to 12% comes into effect on 1 June, only eight months after it rose to 10%. The tax is payable on most general insurance policies including home, motor, pet, private medical insurance, and cash plans taken out by individuals, as well as commercial insurance taken out by businesses.
North Highland College UHI are inviting applications for the Engineering and Construction Employability Essentials summer programme. The course is now in its fourth year and run in conjunction with Skills Development Scotland.
