Highland Council And Police Highlight Role Of Communities In Countering Terrorism

The Highland Council took part in observing a minute's silence at 11:00 today Tuesday 6 June, in respect of the terrorist attack in London on Saturday 3 June 2017.
Leader of the Highland Council, Margaret Davidson said: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with all those affected by these most recent horrific incidents. We have close business, tourism and family connections with London and Manchester and the rest of the UK, and the innocent people who have been caught up these events come from all over the world.
"The Highlands is one of the safest regions of the world, but no one is untouched by global threats to our way of life. Together with our local Resilience Partners, the Council plans and prepares for all kinds of risks and we work effectively together to manage those risks and keep people safe.
"We have recently been raising awareness amongst Council staff and managers and it is vitally important that the public know how to keep themselves as safe as possible at home and when travelling. The CitizenAid App and "Run, Hide, Tell" advice is available on line."
She added: "We also need to report anything untoward as the police need the eyes and ears of ordinary people in communities to help them keep us safe."
Divisional Commander for the Highlands and Islands, Chief Superintendent George Macdonald said: “Counter Terrorism Awareness week runs from Monday 12 June to Sunday 18 June 2017, this will focus on the value of positive and strong joint working relationships between partners and communities. This is an important opportunity to highlight the role that both partner agencies and local communities have in helping us to counter terrorism."
