A report from the Accounts Commission says that charges for council services should be consistent, clear and easily explained to the public. It also says that councils should compare their charges with others and be able to explain any significant differences.

The first eight areas which will go live in Scotland as part of a multi-million pound publicly-funded fibre broadband project were announced earlier this month for the Highlands and Islands. Caithness will see the rollout take place over 2015.
Businesses in the Highlands and Islands interested in exporting to Central Europe are being offered a one to one business clinic in Inverness with an international business adviser. The free 45 minute sessions being held on November 7 have been organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Scottish Development International (SDI).

The finest talent in the Highlands and Islands food and drink industry gathered in Inverness on Friday (25th October 2013) to celebrate this years Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards. It was a nail-biting finale as 41 businesses awaited the announcement of the winners of 12 awards, with victorious businesses ranging from breweries, bakeries, restaurants and retailers to producers of premium Scottish seafood, salt and cheese.
The Highland Council is to host a major conference early next month to launch its Carbon Clever Highlands initiative which aims to achieve a carbon neutral Inverness in a low carbon Highlands by 2025. Keynote speakers at the event on Friday 8 November at Council HQ, Inverness, are Connie Hedegaard, the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Scottish Government Minister, Fergus Ewing MSP, and Willie Printie, of LifeScan Scotland.
