DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 26th) sold 625 weaned calves and store cattle. Stot calves (175) averaged 205.7p and sold to 289.7p per kg for a 290kg British Blue cross from Shewglie, Glenurquhart.
The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service are joining forces to reduce the number of unauthorised bonfires throughout the Highlands in the lead up to Bonfire Night and the inappropriate use of fireworks. Group Manager Robert Scott from Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service said that this was a good example of the Inverness Community Partnership working with partners and sharing information.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October 21st) sold 247 rams at its second continental ram sale of the year. Texel (93) sold to �800 gross for a shearling from Veltigar, Orkney.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (October, 21st) sold 527 rams at its annual show and sale of North County Hill Cheviots. The overall champion was a two shear from Mr B.
First Minister Alex Salmond has welcomed the successful sale of the Nigg fabrication site on the Cromarty Firth to Global Energy Group (GEG) and announces �1.8m support to transform yard into a renewables hub. GEG has announced the completion of the sale from American company KBR and the Wakelyn Trust.

The Community of Caithness and North Sutherland is soon to gain from a new �4M community benefit package which is being provided by the NDA from the new Low Level Waste Facility currently being developed at Dounreay. The aim of the newly formed Caithness & North Sutherland Fund (CNSF) is "to increase the attractiveness of Caithness & North Sutherland as a place to live, work & invest with particular emphasis on achieving environmental, social, culture and infrastructure improvements".

1345 empty homes targeted in the Highlands Local authorities are to receive new powers to tax empty homes that could help raise millions to build new affordable housing. The Council Tax on Empty Homes and Housing Support Grant Bill proposals could apply to the 1345 properties that have currently been empty for more than six months and are liable to pay Council Tax in the Highlands.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 19th) sold 131 OTM cattle. OTM prime cows (44) averaged 145.5p and sold to 174.3p per kg for a 720kg Limousin cross from Fornighty Farm, Nairn, and �1,455 gross for a 915kg Charolais from Seafield, Portmahomack.
Following a period of statutory consultation, The Highland Council is recommending the replacement of Wick's four primary schools with two new purpose built facilities. A report to be considered by the Education Culture and Sport Committee on Thursday 10 November will recommend the Council spends almost �20 million on two new community schools - one to the north of the River Wick and one to the south.
