Already in January the pressures on some Inverness schools are showing.

The Highland Council is limiting school rolls for the 2020-21 academic session at Lochardil Primary School and Culloden Academy.

This is due to the pressure on these Schools' accommodation capacity.

The limiting of the rolls takes account of applications that have been received so far, and the known demands within the catchment areas of each of these schools.

Highland council has range of plans to alleviate the problems of the fast growing population in Inverness.

Among solutions are to have a new school that currently has the working name Ness Castle Primary and will serve the existing and future housing developments of Ness Castle and Ness-side. It's expected to open in August 2021, with a roll of 143. Highland Council said it expects an annual rise in Ness Castle's school roll, reaching 630 by 2032/33.

Another plan is to build a new Gaelic school and change the existing one to English.

Other schools have had or will have demountable classrooms installed to alleviate the pressures.

On secondary schools despite new schools having been recently built at Inverness Royal Academy and Millburn Academy, all five city secondary schools are expected to be oversubscribed within a decade as a result of new housing development and population growth.
