A Look Ahead To The March 2020 Budget With IFS
29th January 2020
The Institute for Fiscal Studies wil discuss the budget live on 11 March.
Chancellor Sajid Javid is due to deliver his first Budget, the first of this parliament, and the first since Autumn 2018, on Wednesday 11 March. Its contents could be the most fiscally important for years, as the new Government sets out its tax and spending plans for the coming parliament. Two weeks ahead of this, IFS researchers - in an event funded by the Economic and Social Research Council - will set out their latest assessment of the fiscal constraints within which the Chancellor is operating and will assess his options. We will analyse:
Constraints placed by the Government's new fiscal targets
Outlook for the 2020 Spending Review
Tax policy options
Differential impact of potential UK-EU trade arrangements
Regional inequalities in living standards and public investment
This event will be chaired by IFS Director Paul Johnson, and there will be plenty of time for questions at the end.
Registration and refreshments will be available from 9am, with the event starting at 9.30am. If you can't make it in person, we will also be live-streaming on our website and on social media.
