A crofter from Keiss has launched her own lamb box business, containing a wide selection of cuts of locally bred lamb. Sally Crowe from Hawkhill realised during lockdown that more and more people are looking for local produce and she decided to launch "The Croft".

Offering boxes containing a mixture of leg of lamb, chops, rolled shoulder and mince - all the meat is home grown, grass fed and welfare assured.

Speaking today, Sally said, "I've been thinking about offering lamb boxes for a while now but the recent pandemic has really brought into sharp focus the amount of people that want to know exactly where their meat has come from. My lamb has been grass fed and welfare assured - something else that is very important to people. I have whole and half boxes available and delivery throughout Caithness is free. I have had a few enquiries from further afield but as much as I would love to deliver to Australia, I have to keep it local at the moment!"

Sally also keeps a rare breed of cow on The Croft, Irish Moillie, and she also hopes to be able to offer boxes of steak and other cuts of beef in the next year or so.

She added "Irish Moillie beef is really unlike any other beef, it's very succulent and of course being grass fed gives it that extra sweet flavour. If the lamb boxes continue to do as well as they are, I will branch out into beef boxes as well. People in Caithness really want to support local business and with the added bonus of well reared meat that tastes great - it benefits everyone. I just want to thank everyone that has supported me so far!"
