4TH GENERATION TERM CONTRACT FOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SCOTTISH TRUNK ROAD NETWORK - NORTH WEST UNIT A9 NAVIDALE ROUNDABOUT AND A9 HELMSDALE CARRIAGEWAY RESURFACING INFORMATION.

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be undertaking essential carriageway resurfacing works on two sections of the A9 Trunk Road, at Navidale Roundabout and through Helmsdale. Please find enclosed location plans for geographical clarity.

The works have been programmed to be constructed as part of a two-phased approach. The first phase, at Navidale Roundabout, has been programmed for construction from Sunday 11th to Wednesday 14th October 2020, between 7pm and 7am each night, a total of three nights. The second phase, through Helmsdale

village, has been programmed for construction from Sunday 25th October to Monday 2nd November 2020, between 7pm and 7am each night, a total of six nights. There are no works planned on Friday 30th or Saturday 31st October.

The Trunk Road will remain open. However, to ensure the safety of our road workers and the travelling public during these works, a 10mph convoy traffic management system will be implemented. The convoy system will be removed out with working hours, however signing will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over

a temporary road surface.

Premises and local residents will be permitted access during the project. However, due to the nature of the works, various roads and accesses that adjoin the A9 will have restricted access at certain times. Exact details of these restrictions will be published once the works programme has been finalised.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

We will endeavour to minimise noise throughout the project, with the nosiest operations (such as removing the worn-out road surface) taking place before 11pm each night. All site staff will be instructed to keep noise to a minimum and all plant will be fitted with, quieter, white noise reversing indicators.

We have planned these works to be undertaken overnight when traffic flows are lower to minimise disruption to local and visitor traffic. BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland wish to thank the local community in advance for their patience during these essential works.

The consultation period for these schemes closes on Friday 2nd October 2020. Should you wish to make comment or require further information, please contact Neil MacRae via email at NWConsultation@bearscotland.co.uk prior to this date.
