The First Minister has urged Scots not to travel to or from England unless it is for "essential purposes".

Nicola Sturgeon made the plea amid reports Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering a second lockdown south of the border.

Boris Johnson will hold a press conference at 5.00pm today Saturday 31 October 2020. It will be broadcast on BBC and other stations.

The First Minister said her government will "take account of any developments in England" but base decisions on circumstances in Scotland.

She also said the prevalence of coronavirus is lower in Scotland than in other parts of the UK, after stricter measures were introduced north of the border in September.

Scientists warn every hospital bed will be full in England by Christmas

The government has been told by scientists that every hospital bed in England will be full by 17 December, unless Boris Johnson imposes further restrictions immediately.

A source has said that due to social distancing in hospitals there are fewer beds, which may well lead to people being turned away from having treatment.

It is also believed that this does include the Nightingale hospitals.

A source said, "Ministers have been told in clear terms that if no further action is taken, at the present rate of rising infections, every hospital bed in England will be full by 17 December.
