Coronavirus Covid-19 Daily Data For Scotland - 17 January 2021

1,341 new cases of COVID-19 reported.

16,256 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results - 9.5% of these were positive.

0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive

147 people are in intensive care with recently confirmed COVID-19.

1,918 people are in hospital with recently confirmed COVID-19.

224,840 people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination and 3,331 have received their second dose.

Since the start of the outbreak:

5,305 people have died who have tested positive as at 16 January.

7,704 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 .

was mentioned on the death certificate up to 10 January

39% of COVID-19 registered deaths related to deaths in care homes, 55% were in hospitals and 6% were at home or non-institutional settings (as at 10 January).

Vaccinations

the first vaccines against COVID-19 were administered on Tuesday 8 December.

224,840 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,331 have received the second dose in the period from 8 December up to 8:30 am on Friday 15 January - this is based on management information and is subject to change on any given day.

NHS and Care Home Staff

in the week ending 12 January, on average 4,944 NHS staff, or around 2.9% of the NHS workforce, reported absent each day for a range of reasons related to COVID-19.

as at 12 January, 1,594 staff were reported as absent in adult care homes due to COVID-19, based on returns received from 726 (68%) adult care homes. Staff absent due to COVID-19 represents 4.2% of all adult care home staff (37,654) for whom a return was provided.

we have been notified by Health Boards or the Care Inspectorate of 15 deaths of healthcare workers and 21 deaths of social care workers, related to COVID-19, since the start of the pandemic. We are not able to confirm how many of these staff contracted COVID-19 through their work.
