Growth Deal Signing An Important Step For Argyll And Bute Recovery

14th February 2021

The rural growth deal (RGD) brings together £25m each from the Scottish and UK Governments, and at least £20m via Argyll and Bute Council and partners, creating opportunities for people living in the region and attracting future investment.

The deal was formally signed today by Councillor Robin Currie, Leader of Argyll and Bute Council; Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity Michael Matheson MSP; and UK Government Minister Iain Stewart MP

HIE will have a key role in the deal's marine aquaculture programme. Morag Goodfellow, HIE area manager for Argyll and the Islands, said:"Today’s signing is an important step in securing long-term economic recovery across Argyll and Bute.

“The growth deal will promote innovation, drive growth, and help deliver sustainable and inclusive economic recovery across the region.

“It will support projects that create opportunities to build on and diversify our local economy, creating and protecting quality rural jobs.

“We look forward to working with our partners to maximise the benefits of the Deal to our communities and in supporting the delivery of the Marine Aquaculture Programme."
