50,493 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
14.2% of these were positive.

4 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive

47 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19.

479 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19

4,095,463 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,629,482 have received their second dose.

in the week ending 22 August, 41 deaths were registered where COVID-19 was on the death certificate.

Since the start of the outbreak:

8,103 people have died who have tested positive as at 27 August.

10,505 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 22 August.

32% of COVID-19 registered deaths related to deaths in care homes, 61% were in hospitals and 7% were at home or non-institutional settings (as at 22 August 2021).

Deaths involving COVID-19, weekly registrations
• As at the 22nd of August, there have been a total of 10,505 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate. In the latest week there were 41 deaths, the same number as last week.
• Of deaths involving COVID-19 in the latest week:
̶ 28 were male, 13 were female.
̶ 12 deaths were aged under 65, 6 were aged 65-74 and there were 23 deaths in people aged 75 or over.
̶ City of Edinburgh, Fife, Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire had the highest numbers of deaths at council level last week with 4 each. In total, 20 council areas had at least one death last week.
̶ 35 deaths were in hospitals, 4 were in care homes, and 2 were at home or in a noninstitutional setting.

Deaths from all causes, weekly registrations
• The total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 33 of 2021 was 1,163. This was 171 more than the five year average for week 33 (17% above average).
• In week 33 there were 122 excess deaths at home or in non-institutional settings (45% above average), 53 more deaths in hospitals (11% above average) and 2 fewer deaths in care homes (1% below average) compared to the 2015-2019 average.
• There were 31 more deaths from circulatory causes, 30 more from cancer and 14 more from Dementia/Alzheimer's compared to the five year average. There were 63 excess deaths from other causes, and 1 fewer death from respiratory causes. The number of
deaths where COVID-19 was the underlying cause was 34.
