Coronavirus (covid-19) Deaths Rise In England, Scotland And Northern Ireland

The number of deaths from all causes in the UK in the week ending 15 October 2021 was 12,845, 14.8% above the average for the corresponding week in 2015 to 2019. Deaths were above the five-year average in all UK countries.
Of all deaths registered in the week ending 15 October, 890 involved the coronavirus (COVID-19), 65 more than the previous week (a 7.9% increase). Deaths involving COVID-19 accounted for around 1 in 14 deaths (6.9%).
UK total deaths include non-residents.
Northern Ireland had the highest proportion of deaths involving COVID-19 at 11.3% (38 deaths), followed by Scotland at 10.4% (139 deaths), Wales at 9.9% (71 deaths) and England at 6.1% (640 deaths).
Using the most up-to-date data, the total number of deaths involving COVID-19 in England and Wales is 149,949 (registrations up to 15 October 2021). Between 13 March 2020 and 1 October 2021, there have been 119,869 excess deaths above the five-year average.
Our data are based on deaths registered in England and Wales and include all deaths where "novel coronavirus (COVID-19)" was mentioned on the death certificate.
