Three Motorists Reported Following Road Policing Patrols In Caithness

Road Policing officers have been carrying out patrols across the north of the country over the weekend, as part of Operation Cedar (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce).

We can confirm that patrols carried out in the Caithness area resulted in three motorists being caught driving at high speeds. The men - aged 27, 43 and 44 – will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal after being detected driving on the A9 near Thurso at 108, 113 and 116mph respectively. One of the men also failed a roadside drug wipe and was driving without insurance.

A further 47-year-old man was also arrested for failing a drug wipe after being stopped on the A9 at Skiach.

Inspector Donnie Mackinnon, from the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit, said: "It's very disappointing to see that there are a number of drivers who continue to take risks and put themselves and others in danger.

“The consequences of speeding, or driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, can be catastrophic and we will continue to carry out enforcement in order to change driver behaviour and reduce casualties.

“Additionally at this time of year, the change in clocks and deterioration in weather bring additional hazards and it's essential that all road users think carefully about their actions and take steps to ensure both their driving and vehicle comply with regulations."
