5,951 new cases of COVID-19 reported.

60,162 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
10.8% of these were positive.

18 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive.

34 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19.

531 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19.

4,366,439 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 3,983,975 have received their second dose, and 2,313,843 have received a third dose or booster.

on 16 December, 18 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive.

in the week ending 12 December, 84 deaths were registered where COVID-19 was on the death certificate.

Since the start of the outbreak:

9,764* people have died who have tested positive as at 16 December.

12,303 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 12 December.

29% of COVID-19 registered deaths related to deaths in care homes, 64% were in hospitals and 7% were at home or non-institutional settings (as at 12 December).

Deaths from all causes, weekly registrations
• The total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 49 of 2021 was 1,314. This was 174 deaths more than the five year average for week 49 (15% above average).
• In week 49 there were 119 excess deaths at home or in non-institutional settings (38% above average), 52 excess deaths in hospitals (9% above average), and 2 fewer deaths in care homes (1% below average) compared to the 2015-2019 average.
• There were 174 excess deaths across all locations for the latest week. There were 44 more deaths due to circulatory causes, 10 more deaths due to cancer and 9 more deaths due to dementia/Alzheimer's compared to the five year average. Respiratory deaths were 3 below average last week. There were also 54 excess deaths from other causes. The number of deaths where COVID-19 was the underlying cause was 61.
