While there has been a cap on Gas and Electricity prices no such cap exists for rural area where many use heating oil for warming the house and for hot water.

Whilst the price of heating oil has always fluctuated dependent on world oil prices the Ukraine war sent the prices very high.

The average price currently is almost 92 pence per litre. On 1st May 2020 it was as low as 21.65 pence per litre. It soared with the advent of the Ukraine war to 148.25 pence on 1 May 2022 before falling back.

There are many factors that contribute to fluctuations of heating oil prices -
• Increase in demand • OPEC • Conflict in oil producing countries • VAT rates • Distribution and delivery costs • Refining costs • Exchange rates • Weather • Crude oil prices.
