Teacher Strikes Go Ahead In Scotland After 6.85% Pay Offer Rejected

Industrial action by the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and the Association of Head Teachers and Deputes Scotland (AHDS) over pay will see almost all primary and secondary schools close on 24 November.

Talks to avert the strikes failed to come up with an improved pay deal. Employer Cosla made the fresh proposal of up to 6.85%. It was an improvement on the previous offer of 5% but still well below the 10% the unions want.

All Primary Schools in Highland including council early learning settings, and all secondary schools, special schools and off-site provision will be closed to pupils on 24 November. School crossing patrols and school transport will not operate. A payment will be made for those children and young people entitled to a free school meal.

Across Scotland most schools etc will be closed on Thursday 24 November.
