· India - Medical Technology and Healthcare Mission

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is organising a healthcare and medical technology mission for UK companies to look at opportunities across India.

All UK registered life sciences companies are eligible to apply to participate in the mission and UKTI will select a mix of product, technology and service providers best suited to represent the UK's considerable strengths in this sector (Please see attached flyer for further information).

In addition, there is an option to attend the Hospital Infrastructure India Exhibition in Mumbai on the 7-9 December, where we have a UKTI stand. This exhibition brings the healthcare planners, engineers and the architects of major healthcare building projects together with the hospital suppliers of the services in planning, design, building, operations, management and refurbishment of hospital facilities.

· Search for innovative technologies that may be the next new growth area for the UK economy

Businesses across the UK are being invited to compete for support to develop innovative technologies that could create new growth areas for the UK economy.

The Government-backed Technology Strategy Board' competition will seek to identify and award up to £18m funding to the most innovative businesses, in order to keep the UK at the forefront of modern technology and enhance quality of life. Collaborative applications are sought from organisations operating in a range of technology areas where the UK has considerable strengths; Advanced Materials, Biosciences, Electronics, Photonics and Electrical Systems, High Value Manufacturing, Information & Communications Technology and Nanotechnology. The Technology Strategy Board will be opening the competition on October 12th 2010 and is hoping that this competition will attract innovations from a variety of businesses with novel ideas that have reached proof-of-concept stage.

· Doing business in China clinics - for the Highlands and Islands

Scottish Development International (SDI), Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) are running a series of China Business Clinics for Highland and Islands companies. If you are thinking of taking your business into China for the first time, or you are looking at further developing your business there, the clinics will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your objectives on a one-to-one basis.

CBBC is the leading organisation helping UK companies grow and develop their business with China. CBBC supports British companies of all sizes by providing business services, practical in-market assistance and industry initiatives via our network of nine UK offices and presence in 11 Chinese cities.

· P4 Digital Healthcare Convention - 1st October, Eden Court, Inverness

The delivery of health and care using distance technologies is of growing global interest, and has particular relevance to the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, where expertise in the field of telehealthcare has developed through the combined efforts of academics, business people and healthcare professionals. The event will take place from 8.45 am till 1pm and explore how a telehealthcare cluster can be built. · Natural Bioactive Conference - 7th October, Eden Court, Inverness

This all day event for the Natural Products community working in the pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and cosmetics market will offer the opportunity to hear from key speakers, including Dr Neil Parry (Unilever), Julian Mellentin (New Nutrition Business), and Professor Alan Crozier (University of Glasgow). · SULSA BIOSKAPE Industry Interchange programme

The BioSKAPE Industry Interchange programme funds short-term exchanges of researchers in either direction, between the science base and industry. The programme aims to foster new collaborations between industry and academia by providing access to knowledge, skills, expertise, equipment and facilities. The programme is open to researchers within SULSA universities and UK companies. Applications from Scottish-based SMEs will be given priority. Awards are not expected to exceed £50k and a minimum 20% cash or in-kind contribution from the industry partner is required.
