Revealed: More Than 70% Of English Water Industry Is In Foreign Ownership - Scottish Government Still Owns Water
1st December 2022
A report in the Guardian yesterday (30 November 2022) shows how the water industry fares under private ownership.
It appears to be a disaster for England with the huge problems of companies being fined for dumping untreated sewerage. The cost of water in Scotland is cheaper for users than in England. Our average water charges remain lower than the average in other parts of the UK - in 2021-22 the average charge in Scotland is £375, compared to £408 in England and Wales.
Water charge increases for most areas came in from April 2022.
The Guardian a report highlights just how much the ownership of water companies in the south are owned by foreign companies and pension funds. With profits flowing abroad should there not be more controls over the companies in England.
