Coronavirus Covid-19 Infection Survey, UK 6 January 2023

Percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in private residential households in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, including regional and age breakdowns.

The following points are for the week ending 28 December 2022 for England, Wales and Scotland, and the week ending 22 December 2022 for Northern Ireland. Comparisons with results from our previous publication on 23 December 2022 are for the week ending 9 December 2022 for England, the week ending 8 December 2022 for Wales and Scotland, and the week ending 7 December 2022 for Northern Ireland.

The percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) continued to increase in England and Scotland, and increased in Wales and Northern Ireland.

In England, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 2,463,000 (95% credible interval: 2,338,700 to 2,593,200), equating to 4.52% of the population (an increase from 2.20% in the previous reference week), or around 1 in 20 people.

In Wales, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 173,200 (95% credible interval: 143,900 to 205,400), equating to 5.70% of the population (an increase from 1.89% in the previous reference week), or around 1 in 18 people.

In Northern Ireland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 118,100 (95% credible interval: 101,400 to 136,300), equating to 6.43% of the population (an increase from 2.02% in the previous reference week), or around 1 in 16 people.

In Scotland, the estimated number of people testing positive for COVID-19 was 213,100 (95% credible interval: 172,000 to 258,300), equating to 4.05% of the population (an increase from 2.49% in the previous reference week), or around 1 in 25 people.
