Is The Axe Rising Over NHS Highland and Other Health Boards

Speculation has run round Scotland for many years that the number of health boards could be drastically reduced to save money. Now finally as reported in the press the Labour party is proposing finally to do it if they get elected to power.

For the north this will appear as yet another big centralisation with many people still regretting the loss of the Caithness and Sutherland Health Trust that was swallowed by NHS Highland. Many people have suggested that this was the starting point for the loss of services to Inverness.

The chance to strip out management to gain efficiency may be very tempting for the Scottish Government no matter the political make-up. No matter what the decision are a long way off.
