Highland Council Road Repair Sticking Plaster Programme Will Not Deliver Results

The council road repairs are constrained by the budget available.

A new set up is being considered to try to alleviate the problems of potholes but the problems are enormous and the budget is nowhere adequate to address the situation.

Appendix 4 of the budget proposals shows the stark reality.
Budget: 23/24 Revenue £1,266,110 & 23/24 Capital: £277,500
2019 Highland Backlog figure: £194,827,000 (To remove all defects from the carriageway). On these figures it will take over 150 years to cure the problems and in reality it will never be done unless a huge increase in the budget can be found.
