Transformation of John O'Groats Begins At Caberfeidh House

27th November 2010

Caberfeidh House at John o'Groats is to benefit from a major £580,000 improvement programme after being awarded £134,750 funding by Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

John o'Groats Leisure Ltd directors, father and son, Walter and Andrew Mowat aim to completely transform Caberfeidh House and provide significantly improved facilities to meet the needs of the modern discerning tourist, through a number of actions aimed at achieving VisitScotland 3-star accreditation.

The development also includes the installation of a bio-mass heating system that will provide heat for Caberfeidh House and Seaview Hotel, moving away from the old inefficient oil fired system. The bio-mass system successfully attracted funding from the Carbon Trust and Energy Saving Trust.

The Mowats also plan to add a small staging area within the Seaview Hotel to encourage local bands and artists to perform throughout the year, catering for both the local and tourist markets.

Andrew Mowat of John o'Groats Leisure Ltd said: "We expect Caberfeidh House will be ready to re-open by early summer 2011, ready to welcome visitors to this spectacular location."

Hilary Budge of HIE said: "The funding award to John o'Groats Leisure Ltd is the beginning of a long and intensive period of improvements to John o'Groats. Caberfeidh House is a key part of the accommodation offering at John o'Groats and this development will help to attract new visitors to the area."
