Is The Price Of Alcohol Going Up In UK? - Definitely Yes

27th June 2023

As announced at Spring Budget 2023, the government will increase the duty rates under the revised duty structure for alcohol products being introduced from 1 August 2023 in line with the Retail Price Index ( RPI ). This includes all alcoholic products produced in, or imported into, the UK.

The increase will not include draught beer but watch all other drinks.
By widening the gap between the Draught Relief rate and the standard alcohol duty rate from 5% to 9.2%, the government has ensured that the duty on a pint in a pub will not increase on 1 August 2023.

Taxation of alcohol has been in chaos since September's mini-Budget when short-lived Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng announced a freeze on alcohol duty, only for Hunt to scrap it when he took over the Treasury in October.
