Dingwall, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September 23rd), sold 58 Cheviot rams at the annual sale.
Cheviot shearlings (58) sold to £1,800 gross from Bardnaclavan Farm, Caithness.
"Dingwall Marts annual show and sale of Park Cheviot Rams was once again kindly sponsored by W. M Armstrong's Haulage and ably judged by well known stock man Mr A. Mccarthy Seafield View, Mey. For the second year running another increase in entries descended on the castle and one of the beset shows of park rams to have graced our ring in many a year. Am extremely strong shortlist was chosen by todays judge which was headed by "The God Father" Mr. J Campbell with Bardnaclavan Drifter. The powerful lad strutted his stuff around the sale ringlike a champion, eventually realising £1,100. Behind him in the pre-sale show and sale ring was G. R. G McCallum, Belmaduthy with their shearling “Belmaduthy Donovan" This reserve Champion was keenly sough after releasing £1,000, after an array of bidding from the grandstand. The aforementioned however wasn't the main excitement of the day as the Bardnaclavan stable complete rewrote the record books for The Castle. Enter the ring ‘Diablo’. This Durran Ace son quite simply oozed quality and style. As sharp as a knife and an eye on him like a disco ball he attracted a lot of interest. The winning bid was the telephone across the water to Ireland for £1,800 a new centre record.”
