Highland Road Conditions Report - 09.10.23

9th October 2023

Highland Council roads operatives have had a busy weekend following the torrential rain and flooding which affected large areas of Scotland.

Operatives are continuing to deal with the aftermath of a number of landslips and flooding incidents which have affected roads in Highland.

The following roads have been affected by the weather:

Lochaber:

The B8007 Kilchoan Road at Ardslignish has been closed while operatives begin repair works following flooding. A culvert, which had been blocked and spilled out over the road, has been cleared, but road subsidence has meant the road has had to be closed for safety reasons. Today and for the rest of the week the road will be closed in time period amnesty to allow a contractor to import rock armour to stabilise the road edge to road level before operatives are able to rebuild the passing place, renew a large culvert and reinstate the road surface.

Inverness:

The B851 at Flichity near Inverness is still closed due to flood water.
Badenoch and Strathspey:

C1132 Loch Insh to Kincraig remains closed due to flooding.
B9152 from the Wildlife Park to Kingussie closed due to flooding.
Burnside Road in Aviemore is experiencing significant flooding and is being dealt with by Scottish Water.

The B970 Boat of Garten to Coylumbridge road is passable with care.

Cairngorm Ski Road is closed with a section of approximately 75 metres under flowing water.

B970 between the Loch Garten junction and Nethy Bridge is closed.
The C1139 between Broomhill Station and Nethy Bridge is also being closed.

River levels are decreasing slowly, however more rain has been forecast for tomorrow, which could further affect areas in Lochaber and Badenoch and Strathspey.
