Book charts achievements of Scotland's Housing Expo

23rd March 2011

A book recording the achievements of Scotland's Housing Expo at Balvonie Braes, Inverness, has now been published in hard copy and electronic formats.

The book illustrates and explains the buildings, masterplanning and landscaping showcased by the Expo, the background to the event and what has been learnt from it so far.

Scotland's Housing Expo 2010 took place in Inverness throughout August 2010 and showcased innovative, sustainable housing and place-making to an audience of over 33.000 visitors. The Expo has an important role in changing attitudes to house and place design in Scotland and is a permanent housing development of 27 different projects consisting of 20 affordable housing units for rent and shared equity and 32 private houses. The affordable units were funded by a capital grant from the Scottish Government which also acted as guarantor for the private sector funding of 24 of the private units.

The Scottish Government commissioned Architecture and Design Scotland to produce the book to record the Expo projects, build on the achievements of the Expo and showcase the project to a wider audience. The book contains contributions from the project masterplanner, the architects of all of the projects and those involved in getting the project built and organising the Expo event.

The Highland Council was the leading partner in the Expo and commissioned the Highland Housing Alliance to act as client for construction on site. The Scottish Government was involved from the beginning of the project through a range of policy areas.

The book has now been published on the Scottish Government website at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2011/03/18095906
the book is FREE as a dowbloadable Pdf file.
