Caiithness Broch Project Takes Another Step Forward
18th November 2023
The Caithness Broch project group have made an exciting announcement on their Facebook page about another momentous step in their plans to build a new broch.
After a lengthy search for the perfect site, we are pleased to announce that we have identified an area north of Latheron known as Flygla as our preferred site for our 'Big Broch Build'.
And, oh, by the way, if you're reading about brochs for the first time - then, HELLO, we're the Caithness Broch Project: we want to bring prehistory to life by building a replica 'broch', an ancient type of tower found only in Scotland! You can read more about our vision here: https://www.thebrochproject.co.uk/the-big-broch-build
We have found the owner and local representatives to be very supportive of our outline plans, and we look forward to consulting with the local residents and stakeholders in the coming weeks to ensure their insights and concerns are integral to the project's next steps.
We are now embarking on a community consultation exercise to hear the views of local residents, businesses and landowners. Leaflets, including a questionnaire, will be sent to households in the local community at the end of November. Two public information events will be held in Latheron in early December, so watch out for that if you're in the area!
The consultation exercise has been made possible thanks to funding from Scottish Power Renewables' Halsary Windfarm, distributed by Latheron, Lybster & Clyth Halsary Fund.
In the meantime, we hope that you'll find these visualisations of our dream build by Bob Marshall, Illustrator suitably awe-inspiring. Big thanks to Barry of Highland Aerial Views for providing the drone shots.
