The latest statistics from public health Scotland 17 December 2023 shows that Covid is leading the way on respiratory infections once again.

Seven day average number in hospital on 17 Dec 23 was 404 from 352 the week before.

The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 50 of 2023 (11th December to 17th December) was 1,269 (39 or 3% lower than the 5-year average). There were 26 deaths mentioning COVID-19.

By underlying cause, this number can be broken down as:
• 294 cancer deaths (51 below average)
• 174 dementia and Alzheimer's disease deaths (25 above average)
• 308 circulatory deaths (25 below average)
• 155 respiratory deaths (2 above average)
• 14 COVID-19 deaths
• 324 deaths from other causes (10 above average)
