Highland Winter Road Conditions Report - Thursday 8 February 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Thursday 8 February 2024 are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East

06:17 - A freezing morning with ice and lingering snow from yesterday. All routes are being treated.

Badenoch and Strathspey

06:27 - Negative temperatures and a dusting of snow overnight. All routes being treated. Drivers advised there is a lot of black ice throughout the area, so travel with care. No known overnight issues.

Nairn

06:28 - Negative temperatures across the network with black ice. All routes being treated and drivers advised to travel with care this morning. No known overnight issues.

Lochaber

07:25 - Cold with road surface temperatures below zero on all routes this morning. Routes being treated on a priority basis. No issues reported overnight.

Skye and Rassay

07:56 - Some hoar frost and icy patches this morning. Drivers reporting routes mostly dry. Treatments running by priority on all routes. Staying dry and cold over the next 24 hours. No overnight issues to report.

Wester Ross

08:16 - Lingering snow. Sub-zero road surface temperatures and ice. All routes being treated. No known overnight issues.

Caithness

08:19 - Covering snow on all routes. Hard packed in some areas, very low temperatures this morning. Main roads have had a double run, now treating other priorities and also footpaths. No issues reported.

Sutherland

08:24 - All routes have had a covering of snow, anything from a dusting to 100mm on higher routes. Severe hoar frost with icy stretches. All routes currently being bladed / treated in order of priority. No known issues.

Inverness

10:25 - Low road surface temperatures. All routes treated and footpaths too. B852 closed again due to further landslip, being attended to now. No other known issues.

A yellow Met Office warning for snow and ice is in effect from 3pm tomorrow, Friday 9 February to 10am on Saturday 10 February 2024.
