Polls Show Labour Lead Over Conservatives Increasing Yet Further As Reform Grabs Disenchanted Right Wing
12th June 2024
For the first time since the beginning of the election campaign there has been a clear shift in the poll averages shown on the BBC poll tracker writes BBC senior political analyst Peter Barnes.
On 3 June Nigel Farage took over as leader of Reform UK and announced he would be standing as a candidate in the election. That has clearly had a positive impact on the party's performance in the polls.
Polls taken entirely in June have had them on between 11% and 17%.
Reform's move upwards has come at the expense of the Conservatives who are now at their lowest level on the poll tracker since October 2022.
Overall, Labour have kept their commanding position - in fact, their lead over the Conservatives has increased. And the Liberal Democrats, Greens, SNP and Plaid Cymru are all maintaining a steady level of support.
