Average Private Rents Rose In Highland And Islands

Highland is in the broad rental market area of Highland and Islands.

Private rents in Highland and Islands averaged at £668 a month in May 2024. This was an increase from £647 in May 2023, a 3.2% rise.

Across Scotland, the average monthly rent was £957, up from £876 a year earlier.

Across Great Britain, the average rent price in May 2024 was £1,262, which was up from £1,161 in May 2023.

In Highland and Islands, average rents on detached properties rose by 5.6%, while for semi-detached properties and terraced properties, the average increased by 2.2%.

For four-or-more bed properties, average rents rose by 5.3%, while the average for one bed properties increased by 2.2%.

By how many bedrooms there are in a property, average rents as of May 2024 in Highland and Islands were:

One bedroom: £477
Two bedrooms: £647
Three bedrooms: £868
Four or more bedrooms: £1,384
Taking the data instead by property type, average rents were:

Flats and maisonettes: £577
Terraced properties: £686
Semi-detached properties: £751
Detached properties: £989
