Will The Bank of Scotland Closure In Wick Be the End The Town Centre

3rd July 2024

The footfall in Wick is already much reduced from earlier years will the last bank closing be he final nail in the coffin of Wick town centre.

With several empty shops in the town centre from Bridge Street to High Street it would seem likely that footfall will reduce even further when Bank of Scotland closes the branch on Bridge Street - 25 June 2025.

With one less reason to go into the town centre new businesses may thing twice about moving in.

Added to the fact that recently parking charges have been instituted at car parks in the town - even though for now it is voluntary.

Covid changed many things that people do and online banking increased along with online shopping at places like Amazon.

Wick is not the only town where Bank of Scotland is closing the branch. See the listing url=https://www.bankofscotland.co.uk/aboutonline/ways-to-bank-with-us/branch-closures.html]HERE[/url]

The banks are making bumper profits
Banks' record profits have been driven by a jump in net interest income (NII) - the difference between what a bank pays out in interest to savers and receives in interest from loans - as central banks around the world hiked borrowing costs to cool inflation.

Lloyds, HSBC, Barclays and Natwest post record £44bn profits from global interest rate hikes.
