I Do Social Media To Change Things - Richard Murphy
25th August 2024
For many years Richard Murphy has used his knowledge and expertise to advise and expose wrong doings of governments concerning financial affairs. He has had many successes and written books but also plugged away consistently on social media.
In this reflection I discuss why I have felt compelled to undertake so much social media activity over the last 18 years. That has been driven by a desire to address global injustices, particularly related to tax havens, inequality and climate reated issues. Since 2006, I have consistently blogged, tweeted, and created videos to highlight and propose solutions for issues like tax abuse, inequality, and poor governance. Despite criticism and challenges, my belief that a better world is possible will keep me at this activity for as long as I am able to do it.
This morning, I published a video in a slightly different format from the one I usually use. Firstly, it is audio only. That just seemed to suit what I wanted to do. Secondly, it is as much a personal reflection as it is about current events. The topic it addresses, which is why I use social media as much as I do, is, however, one that will be of interest to readers here.
