Monthly production output was estimated to have decreased by 0.8% in July 2024; this follows a 0.8% increase in June 2024.
The monthly output decrease in July 2024 resulted primarily from a decrease of 1.0% in "manufacturing", supported by smaller contributing decreases in "electricity and gas" (down 1.7%) and "water supply and sewerage" (down 0.7%); these rises were partially offset by a rise in “mining and quarrying” (3.9%).
The monthly reduction in manufacturing output in July 2024 saw decreases in 7 of its 13 subsectors and only one subsector increasing by more than 1%.
The largest negative contributions to manufacturing output in July 2024 came from the “manufacture of transport equipment” and “manufacture of machinery and equipment”; these decreased by 2.3% and 4.7%, respectively.
The largest positive contribution to manufacturing growth in July 2024 came from “manufacture of wood and paper products and printing”, which increased by 1.6%.
Production output for the three months to July 2024 was estimated to have decreased by 0.1% compared with the three months to April 2024; weakness in “manufacturing” (down 0.3%) and “mining and quarrying” (down 1.4%) was partially offset by strength in “electricity and gas” (2.1%) and “water supply and sewerage” (0.9%).
