Stromar is a floating offshore wind farm development off Caithness in northern Scotland, around 80km north of Fraserburgh.

Generating up to 1.5GW of power it could be one of the world's largest floating offshore wind farms. That's enough clean, green energy to power close to *1.5 million homes.

Stromar is a joint venture between Ørsted, BlueFloat Energy and Nadara.

Stromar plans to lead the way in bringing community ownership to offshore wind. We are already working with community ownership experts Energy4All, building on their 15-year track record in establishing cooperatives at seven of Nadara's onshore wind farms in Scotland.

Ørsted has a long history of working with communities to ensure they benefit from renewable energy projects. In the Humber region, Ørsted has invested more than £45 million directly into local community, education, and skills development through grants, donations and sponsorships.

Nadara has been at the forefront of developing community ownership schemes in onshore wind. Along with its innovative co-operatives, since 2009 it has also operated one of Scotland's first community ownership schemes for a commercial wind farm at Earlsburn near Stirling.

Public Consultation Events
Community engagement is a vital part of Stromar's development process and we are committed to engaging with local stakeholders at an early stage in the project and encourage feedback which could help shape and inform our proposals.

We are holding a series of consultation events across Aberdeenshire and the north of Scotland including Cuminestown, Fraserburgh, New Deer, Rosehearty, Strichen and Wick to give communities the opportunity to meet the development team and find out more about our floating offshore wind farm project.

Project director, Nicholas Ritchie, said, "The consultation events are a crucial part of the statutory planning process and give communities the opportunity to find out more about how Stromar is progressing and provide feedback on the latest developments for the project.

"Since holding information days about the project in March, we have refined our plans considerably. We look forward to sharing these updates at the consultation events, including how feedback has helped shape our plans so far, as well as receiving further valuable feedback which will continue to be considered in the project's design and development."

Our virtual exhibition will run from November 11 to December 23, 2024. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please contact the team at info@stromarwind.co.uk
