Abuse levels against women in the British army are High - Would you want your daughter or indeed your son to join up

20th February 2025

The issue of abuse against women in the British Army has been a significant concern. Recent reports have highlighted numerous cases of harassment, abuse, and even rape experienced by female soldiers. Over 1,000 women have shared their stories of such incidents.

The tragic death of Gunner Jaysley Beck in 2021 brought to light many of these issues, with allegations of harassment and abuse being a contributing factor2.

General Sir Roly Walker, the head of the British Army, has condemned these behaviors and urged senior officers to take action to stop them2. Despite efforts to address the problem, it appears that abuse and harassment remain prevalent within the ranks.

Is it any wonder recruitment is struggling to find people to join up.

And also Racism
Racism has been an issue in the British Army. Despite efforts to improve diversity and inclusion, there have been reports of racist behavior and discrimination. The British Army has taken steps to address these issues, such as implementing the Wigston Review into inappropriate behavior and promoting anti-racism initiatives. However, challenges remain, and there is still work to be done to create a truly inclusive environment.
