Trading Standards - Energy Bill Support Scheme Scams

There have been recent reports of scam text messages and emails which say you are eligible to receive a £400 discount under the 'Energy Bill Support Scheme'.

You are asked to click a link to apply for the rebate - this will take you to a website using UK Government branding which asks for your personal and credit card details.

The UK Government's Energy Bill Support Scheme ended in 2023. Any messages asking you to apply for a rebate under this scheme are likely to be scams.

How to Avoid
Be suspicious of any message or cold call asking you to apply for an energy bill rebate or discount.
DWP will never ask for your personal details via text message or email.

If you receive a text message, email or cold call asking for your details or for a fee to 'apply' for a payment, do not click on any links or provide any details.

Forward suspicious text messages for free to 7726 and send suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk
