Several price increases are expected in April due to government changes and other factors:
Energy Bills: The energy price cap is set to rise by 6.4%, adding approximately £111 annually to the average household's energy costs.
Water Bills: Water bills are expected to see their largest increase in decades, with an average rise of £123 annually.
Council Tax: Most councils in England are increasing council tax by 5%, with some areas seeing even higher rises.
Broadband and Mobile Bills: Many providers are raising prices, with some contracts seeing increases of up to £42 annually.
TV Licenses: The cost of a TV license will increase by £5, bringing the annual fee to £174.50.
Income Tax: Any increase in salaries or pensions will drag more people into paying tax and higher rates due to no increase in personal allowances that used to rise with inflation each year but are now frozen.
Shop Prices: Will increase due to higher employers National Insurance and VAT changes, Additionally the new minimum wage and new rules on zero hours contracts.
Passport Fees: Passport application fees are also set to rise, with standard online applications increasing by £6 for adults.
Some alcohol increases start in April due to changes from the chancellor last October.
These changes are likely to put additional financial pressure on households.
The Spring Statement on Wednesday 26th may bring yet more pain as government finances are under sever pressure due to borrowing costs.
