Northern Constabulary Road report - 0600hrs - 9/12/11

The Orkney Islands have experienced severe weather conditions which has caused widespread damage and local flooding has caused travel problems.

The Weyland Bay road. Kirkwall is currently closed with diversions in place.

The B9047 South Walls road in Hoy is closed at the Causeway due to a breakage in the road surface.

There are several areas without power namely houses in the Craigiefield area, houses near Marness Garage and the Islands of Shapinsay, Sanday, Stronsay and North Ronaldsay. Scottish and Southern Energy are aware of this issue and are making attempts to rectify the problem with work ongoing.

The Churchill Barriers are open, however this will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the public are advised to make any necessary journeys with caution.

Most severe weather is forecast for Orkney and further disruptions may occur.

The Skye Bridge is currently closed to High Sided Vehicles

The A862 Dingwall to Ardullie roundabout is closed at the Mineral Bridge due to a culvert collapse.

The C18 Achterneed to Strathpeffer is closed due to fallen trees.

The Old Evanton Road near Foulis Estate is closed due to fallen trees.

The A834 Dingwall to Strathpeffer road is badly affected by surface water.

The B9007 Carrbridge to Ferness road is closed due to drifting snow.

The B9176 Struie road is closed due to fallen trees.

The B817 Skiach to Evanton road is closed due to fallen trees.

The A837 at Oykel Bridge is closed due to flooding.

The A82 at Corran is closed due to a landslide and will remain closed till at least 1000hrs when a review will take place.

The unclassified Applecross to Lochcarron road (Beallach na Ba) is closed due to snow.
