Turbine Dry Run - Dunmaglass Wind Farm

17th December 2011

On Tuesday 20 December 2011, RES will be undertaking a wind turbine dry run for Dunmaglass Wind Farm.

A specialist haulage contractor, Collett, will drive the route using a specially modified collapsible vehicle. The overall length of the vehicle will be approximately 50m to imitate a 45m long wind turbine blade. A police escort will come before and after the abnormal load to warn other road users, and direct traffic (where necessary) to enable the vehicle to safely negotiate the route. The dry run will be filmed from a following vehicle.

The vehicle will leave Inverness Harbour at approximately 9.30am; it will travel along Longman Drive and Stadium Road to the roundabout junction with the A9 / A82. The vehicle will turn left to join the A9 and travel southbound to the B851 junction at Daviot before turning right onto the B851. Once on the B851 the vehicle will head south-west through Inverarnie, Farr and Croachy to the site entrance at Dunmaglass Mains. The vehicle is expected to arrive at the site between 11.00am - 12.30pm.

It is not our intention to cause any traffic hold-ups, we will do our best to minimise this by taking advice from the police, and where possible making sure that vehicles travelling in both directions are given the opportunity to pass safely along the way.

Note: This does not require any formal road closure as the road will be kept open for all road users throughout the trial run. It is carried out in the form of a 'rolling road closure' which is managed by the Police allowing the escort to travel in front of the vehicle and stop oncoming traffic at suitable and safe locations to allow the abnormal vehicle along its route. Effective escorting will minimise delay for other road users and safely manage the transportation of the trial run vehicle.
