The dates for Wick Gala Week 2012 were confirmed today. The week will begin with the Crowning of the Gala Queen at 7pm on Saturday 28th July 2012. A bonfire, barbecue and fireworks display will mark the end of the week on Saturday 4th August.

Although the events to fill the week have still to be confirmed, Chairwoman of the Gala Committee, Donna Plowman, promises a fun filled week for all ages.

Earlier today Donna said, "We still have a lot of work to do to arrange all the events for Gala Week. As always we are still on the lookout for new volunteers to help out in all areas from Stewarding to counting money. We're also looking for more members for our committee to bring a fresh perspective to the table and hopefully some new ideas."

With the dates announced so early in the year, local people and local businesses have plenty of time to prepare for what is always a very busy week in the summer. Many locals who live away like to return home during Gala Week as it's a great chance to catch up with old friends who have also moved from the town. Travel and accommodation arrangements are usually much easier to set with a few months extra notice.

Businesses can now be preparing for what is likely to be a boost in trade by following the details of the events as they are announced. Caithness.Org will be posting details of the full programme as each event is confirmed on it's Whats On Guide

The next meeting of the Gala Committee will be on the 6th of March 2012 at 7:00pm in the Assembly rooms. All new members and volunteers are most welcome.

The Gala Committee has also started it's search for this year's Gala Queen. Any girls who live in Wick and would like to be considered should get in touch with the committee as soon as possible.
