14th August 2025
Monthly production output was estimated to have increased 0.7% in June 2025; this follows a fall in May 2025 (down 1.3%) and no growth during April 2025 (0.0%).
The rise in monthly production output in June 2025 resulted from increases in "manufacturing" (up 0.5%), "electricity and gas" (up 3.3%), and "water supply and sewerage" (up 0.5%); this was partially offset by a fall in "mining and quarrying" (down 0.4%).
8 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors saw a rise in June 2025, with the largest positive contribution coming from “computer, electronic and optical products” (up 8.8%); all other positive and negative contributions to monthly production growth were less than 0.1 percentage points.
Production output was estimated to have decreased (down 0.3%) during Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2025, compared with Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2025.
The largest negative contributor to the quarterly fall in Quarter 2 2025 came from “electricity and gas” (down 6.8%), supported by “mining and quarrying” (down 0.3%); this was partially offset by increases in “water supply and sewerage” (up 2.1%) and “manufacturing” (up 0.3%).
The large quarterly fall in “electricity and gas” in Quarter 2 2025 was from declines in both “electric power generation, transmission and distribution” and “manufacture and distribution of gas”; while both industries saw increases on the month in June 2025, they declined in both April and May.
