Ming Yang's Scotland plant at Ardersier Port ignites UK security debate

China's £1.5bn project creates showdown between national security and local economic goals.

The economic case is compelling. Ming Yang's preferred site is Ardersier Port, in the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, an ex-industrial area battling brain drain.

The company pledges to create up to 3000 new jobs in a region where the green jobs promised as part of its transition away from oil and gas are yet to materialise.
