The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Highland Council road conditions report for Wednesday 4 February 2026 is as follows:
Mid and East Ross, and Black Isle (As at 07:20)
Positive road temperatures with scattered rain turning to sleet and snow at higher elevations. Higher routes being checked and treated where needed.
Caithness (As at 08:37)
Damp roads. Some road surface temperatures just below zero so patrol done as a precaution. No overnight issues to report.
Sutherland (As at 08:38)
Road surface temperatures mostly above and rising across the area with light wintery showers confined to the high ground. All primary and secondary routes treated where needed. No other know issues.
Skye and Raasay (As at 06:41)
Road surface temperatures above freezing but a risk of sleet showers forecast continuing with morning action on primary routes only. No other known overnight issues reported.
Lochaber (As at 07:53)
M09 Carnoch - Lochaline treated. Temperatures reported higher than forecast. No other road issues reported.
Nairn (As at 08:43 )
Primary and secondary routes being treated on high routes. Damp roads and no known issues.
Inverness (As at 05:21)
Road surface temperatures marginal and below on all routes today. Snow or sleet predicted in the early part of the morning. Primary and secondary routes being run this morning.
Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (As at 07:48)
Road surface temperatures fell in the night, prompting some main route ploughs being launched this morning. However, driver feedback is generally better than forecasted. There were no out of hours calls and no known issues across the network at the time of posting.
Badenoch and Strathspey (As at 08:44 )
Primary and secondary routes being treated. Damp roads and no known issues.
